I LOVE HALLOWEEN YOU GUYS! I'm such a nerd, I start planning my Halloween costume for the next year as soon as November hits. Sometimes, while I'm still IN my costume. I'm definitely more of a Halloween prepper and make sure I have something dashing for all hallows eve, but sometimes a last minute party will pop up and I need something quick.
It's actually pretty easy to come up with cute costumes using what's in your closet. With the help of a few props or accessories, you can transform a dress into a character in no time. For extra fun, I chose all storybook characters for today's costume inspiration.
Alice in Wonderland has gotten the trash treatment from the costume stores lately. I mean, I don't want to go down that rabbit hole (GET IT LOL) but isn't it kind of weird to make a sexy Alice costume? She's cute and sweet and doesn't smoke anything the caterpillar does so grab a full blue dress from your closet and make a homemade (and more tame) version of this costume. If you want a prop to help people figure out who you are, grab a stuffed bunny or pink flamingo. Bonus points for a blonde wig.
Okay, if you've never read the Eloise books, they are ADORABLE. Eloise is a precocious little girl who lives in The Plaza and gets into tons of trouble. The movie is really cute too. I found my suspenders at Goodwill for 25 cents! Also - she has a pug, so it's a cute doggy and me outfit option if you're a crazy pug mom like I am.
I've always wanted to attempt to sew one of Mary Poppins' fantastic outfits for a costume. This one's way easy though, just grab a full coat and a scarf. Make sure you fill your bag with lots of fun things to pull out at various parts of the evening. This could also be an adorable couples costume if you have a friend who wants to dress up as Bert! Or a penguin!
So....what are y'all going to be this year? Stay tuned for my costume later this week. I'm the queen of costume surprises, so I never tell anyone what I'm going to be. I like a big, dramatic reveal. Quelle surprise!
Happy Halloween Week!
